Farewell, My Melody is a Chinese-Canadian psychological thriller about music, parenting, and nuanced feelings within an immigrant family. In this film, music is integral to both the establishment of the characters. But on a deeper level, it represents the gaps between different beliefs and values. Farewell, My Melody uses music to explore a cultural-generational gap between mother and daughter, and it opens questions about what “good parenting” really means.
